The tide pools at the Haga Haga Hotel and Resort house a wide variety of life. The morning low tides reveal a whole new universe with creatures of all sizes and shapes.
Like this sea slug. It was the size of a small water bottle and meandered slowly along its way.
You'll have to look closely to find the octopus in this picture (below). We gave you a little help with the highlighted box, but it's still easy to miss: one of its eyes looks up at the camera (center of the box) and two tentacles stick out to the right. You can actually make out the suction cups on the tentacles if you look really close. This unlucky fellow found himself stuck in the tide pools at low tide. We stumbled across him just as he was making a run for the open sea. He saw us and got spooked, so we could only get one good shot.
| Whale watching is a time honored past time at Haga Haga and today was a particular treat. A whale came to within 50 yards of the shore and began this strange behavior: with nose underwater, it stuck its tail up in the air and began splashing it down on the surface of the water, leaving a large splash every time. This continued for about 15 minutes. We think it was mating behavior, but don't know for sure. What we do know is that it was a wonderful, unique experience. | ||
