The Cape or African Buffalo is one of the Big Five and a common sight in both Hluhluwe-Umfolozi (left and top) and Kruger National Parks (below).  These large grazers are the size of a mini van and weigh in excess of 1700 lbs....and they're not even the largest land animal in South Africa!

Gazing at you with a piercing stare, these slow moving creatures appear to be docile and uninterested in humans.  As with any animal, however, they can be aggressive--particularly when protecting the young.
