Virtual Safari:
Baboons

baboon2.jpg (64841 bytes)

These pictures from Kruger National Park illustrate how the animals have adapted the environmental impact of tourism.  These baboons are taking advantage of the roads to travel from one side of the park to another.

Baboons only travel on the ground when there are no predators around.  In the face of danger, they retreat to the safety of trees.  Older baboons climb to the highest limbs, leaving the smaller, younger ones to fend for themselves in the face of leopards.

Although they look cute and harmless, they are very clever and very aggressive.  Be sure to keep the windows rolled up or you might get an unexpected hitchhiker!
